Dublin-born artist Fran Halpin has spent many years working full-time as an artist, continuously evolving her craft. This year marked a significant turning point as she decided to shake things up and explore an entirely new way of painting and perceiving the world. Having worked in a representational style for much of her career, Fran began to feel creatively stuck. To push past this, she took an online masterclass that encouraged more expressive, free-flowing techniques. “By going back to basics, unlearning old habits, and embracing new approaches, my latest work reflects an exciting blend of learning and growth,” Fran shares. “It’s a big step on my journey, and it feels right to share it now. My work will never be the same again.”
At the heart of Fran’s practice is a deep connection to the natural world. Her paintings often shine a light on the beauty and fragility of our environment, from capturing the intricate interplay of light and water to exploring themes inspired by her snorkeling adventures along the Alicante coast. Through her art, Fran aims to inspire a sense of wonder and urgency about preserving the planet. “Our environment is such a vital part of our lives,” she says. “I want my work to evoke not just appreciation for its beauty but also awareness of the need to protect it.”
Looking to the future, Fran is already diving into her next project and preparing to release her upcoming collection, which promises to push her creative boundaries even further. As an inspiration to budding creatives everywhere, Fran reflects on her journey and shares her mother’s sage advice: “If it was easy, everyone would do it.”
